Etching on a thick cream paper with minor soiling. Framers tape on verso at head and foot. Two very small cuts at top edge. Paper thinned in several areas: not affecting print. Very Good Condition.

Etching by Simone Cantarini (1612-1648) titled "Virgin Crowned by Two Angels. Cantarini was an Italian painter and etcher. He was known for his paintings of historical subjects while his etchings "achieved extraordinary delicacy and a vibrant and luminous quality in his graphic work." (Marina Garofoli. This etching portrays two angels holding a crown over the Virgins head with three more cherub figures near her feet. The Metropolitan Museum of Art dates their copy of this etching to 1639.

Johann Adam Bernhard Ritter von Bartsch included this Cantarini etching in his 21-volume treatise " Le Peintre Graveur" published between 1803 and 1821. Item #790
