London: Smith, Elder and Co., 1905. Voyage of the 'Discovery' by Robert F. Scott, Smith, Elder and Co., London, 1905. 2nd Impression. Two Volumes, 6.75 x 9.75 inches. 556, 508pp.

Original publisher's dark blue cloth (our scans make the cloth bluer than reality) with gilt medallions on front covers. Top edges gilt, otherwise uncut. Complete with hundreds of illustrations, 12 color plates, 2 photogravures and two large folding maps. Both volumes in mylar jackets and in very good condition. Light bumping to corners and mild edge wear. Tight binding and clean interior. The only obvious flaw are tidemarks on both photogravures (see our scans). Folding maps in excellent condition. 2nd Impression as noted on title page. Unusually nice set. Housed in custom leather and cloth clamshell box with title in gilt on spine.

Robert Scott's first-hand account of the first expedition to undertake extensive overland investigations of Antarctica. Over the course of two years, Scott and his men followed the Ross Ice Shelf to its eastern extreme, discovered King Edward VI Land, found a range of mountains stretching southwards toward a vast plateau, trekking to within 500 miles of the South Pole. Throughout, the team amassed a huge collection of scientific data.
