Hose Company No. 2

1855 Victorian Invitation Card

N.P. Hose Company No. 2, 1855. Victorian Era Invitation Card – Hose Company No. 2 Will Give Their Fifth Annual Ball at Spencer Hall, Thursday Evening, Dec. 20, 1855, 4.75 x 3 inches.

Gloss coated paper card with color pictorial engraving to edges; embossed lettering; corners ever so slightly worn, else no edge wear; some light discoloration to both sides; previous owner writing on back says: “I will be here in a few minuts [sic] Mr. B Peggs”; there is also writing that I believe says “Delia L. Peggs” and “Merrell”. Very good condition.

Pretty little Victorian-era invitation card to a ball, along with possibly the written response of the invitee. Hose companies are special firefighting units focused on the deployment and use of hoses to extinguish fires; I could not find any information on the Hose Company No. 2, specifically, nor any of the printed or manuscript names; worthy of further research.

Very Scarce; no copies found in OCLC or commerce as of January 2024. Very Good. Item #1163

Price: $180.00
