1909 Salt Lake Theatre Playbill Booklet for “The Bungle” Political Satire Play

Salt Lake City, Utah: Theatre Publishing Co., 1909. 1909 Salt Lake Theatre Playbill Booklet for “The Bungle” Political Satire Play, Theatre Publishing Co., Salt Lake City, Utah, March 31, 1909, 6 x 9.25 inches, 40 pp.

Staple-bound booklet with color pictorial wrappers; wrappers lightly soiled; light edge wear; interior pages clean, unmarked; very good condition.

Rare program booklet published by the Theatre Publishing Co. for the shows at the Salt Lake Theatre. The main production is “The Bungle”, presented by the Press Club of Salt Lake and described as a “paralyzing parody on pure politics”. Also includes a list of three upcoming Shakespeare plays: The Winter’s Tale, Much Ado About Nothing, and Othello; as well as a portrait of the actress playing Hermione in The Winter’s Tale, numerous advertisements, and theatrical notes on the upcoming plays.

The Press Club of Salt Lake City was a social club founded by the city’s newspaper reporters in 1902. The club hosted public events such as plays, banquets, and lectures. The Salt Lake Theatre was built in 1862, and enjoyed a great deal of success until the advent of motion pictures. Deep in debt, the theatre was demolished in 1928.

Booklet scarce; this issue not in OCLC or commerce as of February 2024. Very Good. Item #1304
