Both documents are from the United States Internal Revenue Service, titled “Stamp for Specialty Tax”. one form acknowledges receipt of payment of a special tax on the business of Dealer in Manufactured Tobacco; the other on the Business of Retail Liquor Dealer. Both signed by Francisco P. Abreu and dated February 27, 1877.

Francisco Abreu (1831-1879) was a colonel in the 1st New Mexico Volunteer Infantry in the Union Army during the Civil War. Abreu was the only Hispanic commander of Fort
Union. His father was Santiago Abreu, the governor of Santa Fe from 1832-1837, who was captured, tortured and killed during the Chimayo Rebellion of 1837. Good. Item #1320
