Colors are bright, minor wear to edges, 1/2-inch tear lower left corner, 5-inch tear near bottom right; both tears repaired with archival tape on verso. Some glue residues on verso and pinholes at corner. Would frame beautifully.

Stunning Haynes large format hand colored image of Old Faithful likely late 19th or early 20th century. Haynes worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad for which he produced hundreds of promotional views and developed "one of the finest inventories of the Dakota country" (Mautz, p. 347). In 1882 Haynes set up a studio in Fargo, Dakota Territory and traveled to Yellowstone to help publicize the Northern Pacific Railroad. A year later he opened a photographic concession at Mammoth Hot Springs and became Yellowstone's official photographer.
