Yukon and British Columbia: Circa 1940. Collection of Approximately 510 Images of British Columbia and the Yukon Circa 1940. (Film Negatives) Unknown Photographer or date.

Majority of negatives measure approximately 2.75 x 4.5 inches (about 450 images) with about 60 images measuring 2.5 x 3.5 inches. Negatives are in very good condition. Composition of the images seems to be the work on an amateur photographer.

This is a treasure trove of great content from circa 1940 Yukon and British Columbia, Canada. Especially tantalizing are the industrial images, rural work camps and great photos of several Yukon Southern Air Transport airplanes which ran routes between Edmonton and Whitehorse, but likely other destinations as well.

Specific themes include cattle ranching, hunting, pack stock images, transportation, construction and industry. Many images of crude housing and platform tents are included along with several of a camp cook. There are several mining and water diversion images.

Specific named locations include Revelstoke and Banff, pus a plaque celebrating Fort Garry in present day Winnipeg.

The Yukon Southern Air Transport Company is well represented in this collection with at least three identifiable aircraft including the Yukon King, Yukon Queen and Yukon Southern. One photo of a Northwest Airline plane is present. The collection includes at least a dozen images of aircraft maintenance. Initially I thought these might be surplus WW 2 aircraft but am not sure. In 1941 Canadian Pacific Railway bought Yukon Southern Air Transport so it seems likely these photos pre-date that acquisition.
