Envelopes measure 3.5 x 6.5 inches. Good condition with various levels of soiling with minor tearing to envelopes depending on how the envelopes were opened. All postally used with postage and circular date stamps. All with contents, also in good to very good condition. One letter remains unopened.

Great little collection of advertising covers addressed to the Buford Mercantile Company of Virginia City, Montana, 1879-1906. Advertisements on recto and verso. In 1878, Simeon R. Buford, opening the Buford Mercantile Company, operating into the 1920s. Buford’s was the supply point for most of southwestern Montana and offered virtually any product needed from liquor to mining supplies, to home goods and furnishings. The Buford name was well-known throughout Montana and the west.

Advertising Covers, also known as Commercial Postal History, are distinguished by a return address, often with illustrations or list of services. The back of the envelopes was often utilized for full-sized ads with artistic graphics and eye-catching designs. Similarly, business letterheads were further opportunities to advertise products.
