Original brown cloth with gilt design on front of army tent plus gilt title on spine. Spine is faded. Small amount of insect damage in front gutter. Tight binding. Minimal foxing and a couple dog-eared pages. Very Good condition.

Vivid memoir of the American Civil War by an English surgeon who volunteered for the Union cause. Thomas Ellis had served the British Army in South Africa. Among the major campaigns, he saw service in the 1862 Peninsula Campaign, Second Battle of Manassas and Antietam.
