Envelope with light soiling, rough top edge and tear to side. Two .2 cent Washington stamps with November 14, 1928, date stamp.

Beautiful and expensive pamphlet published by the brand-new Mayflower Hotel in Washington D.C. The hotel opened in 1925; pamphlet printed the same year. Over the years, the Mayflower has hosted world leaders and leading men and women. Among many, the Grand Ballroom saw receptions for Charles Lindbergh, Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and the King of Morocco. Legend has it that J. Edgar Hoover ate lunch at the Mayflower every day for twenty years, ordering the same item off the menu each day.

Single one-person rooms cost $5-18 per day, double rooms $9-18 per day, and suites ran $16 to $35 per day. From the pamphlet: "The Mayflower, Washington's newest and most impressive hotel, representing an investment of approximately twelve million dollars, stands pre-eminent in that group of hotels by those who know to excel." The Mayflower is situated between the White House and Dupont Circle.
