Produced from 1802 to 1816, the various plates drawn by Redouté a inspired by the time he spent with Empress Josephine’s extensive collection of plants in her gardens at Malmaison. The resulting folio is one of Redouté’s masterpiece works.
This print is created by stipple engraving, printed in color and finished by hand. Stippling is an etching process that employs dots instead of lines to form the image. Color is then printed directly to the copper plate for each impression.
