Small Literary Archive for Big Sur, California Writer Jack Curtis
Small Literary Archive for Big Sur, California Writer Jack Curtis--Includes the Unpublished Novels "Daily the Heavenly Battle" and "Passing Peach Tree Station".
Jack Curtis (1922-2002) was the author of at least 11 novels, 6 collections of poetry plus many short stories and essays. His work appeared in Sports Illustrated and Gray's Sporting Journal in addition to many poetry and short story anthologies.
Curtis wrote a series of western scripts for TV (Rawhide, the Rifleman, Outlaws) and in the early 90's signed a contract for six paperback westerns with Simon and Schuster. His best-known titles likely are "Banjo" 1971 for Macmillan and his 1986 novel "Eagles over Big Sur" for Capra Press.
Many are familiar with Jack Curtis in that Capra Press paired him with Edward Abbey in 1986 to publish "Red Knife Valley" by Jack Curtis with "Confessions of a Barbarian" by Edward Abbey. This was part of Capra's "Back to Back" series. Abbey was much better known, and this pairing likely introduced many readers to Jack Curtis.
