As is common for this book, there are condition issues reflecting the patina of age and use. Re-backed with original peach endpapers retained but back endpaper suffered tear and loss of text. Original black morocco, gilted spine is mostly retained. Heavy rubbing to boards--most of the advertising text remains legible. Previous owner's label to endpapers. Cello tape repair to ad on page 155. Bumped corners. Advertisements on pages 409 to 424 are on yellow colored paper. Blue paper advertisement tipped in between pages 184 and 185. Hermann Ernst, Book-binder 1/2-page ad on pink paper tipped in between pages 8 and 9. Two instances noted of page numbers written in ink. Several signatures, while tight, extend slightly beyond the fore edge which resulted in bumped leaves at the fore edge. See scans. Nothing missing as best as we can determine. Fair condition.

Edwin Bean states in his foreword, "The size and importance of Nevada [County] among the mining counties of California; its mines of gold of enormous product, eclipsing all others in the world; its extensive gravel ranges, in which lies imbedded wealth to enrich the nation; its thousand ledges of gold-bearing rock that stripe its territory, inviting the capital of other lands, and which are destined at no distant day to cause its valleys and mountains to resound with the din and clatter of machinery; its fertile soil on which can be grown all the productions of the temperate zone; its perfect adaptability to the production of the generous wines that are to rival those of France and Hungary...."
