Down Town "For the Good of San Francisco" Newsletter of the Down Town Association of San Francisco

San Francisco, California: Down Town Association, 1929-1942. Down Town "For the Good of San Francisco" Newsletter of the Down Town Association of San Francisco--Broken Run 81 Issues, 1929-1942

Collection runs from good to very good condition. Issues have printed address on first or last page. All folded into thirds. Some soiling and foxing to scattered issues. All issues appear to be 4 pages. 8 1/2 x 11 inches.

Weekly Newsletter of the Down Town Association of San Francisco. Publication of the newsletter began in 1920, although the association began in 1907 after the San Francisco earthquake. The Association apparently continued until 2004; we're unable to determine when the last print newsletter was published.

Each newsletter included a smattering of ads. The banner changed over the years several times and the title evolved from "Down Town" to "Downtowner" sometime in 1940.

The goals of the Down Town Association was devoted to the betterment of San Francisco and its Downtown Business District. From a 1940 issue we find the Purposes of the Down Town Association" as:

"To render a constructive service to our members and to property owners and business concerns and those engaged in manufacturing and professional activities in San Francisco.

To promote plans for, and to cooperate with, municipal authorities in the solution of problems confronting the City.

To oppose vigorously any unnecessary spending of public moneys and to voice the demand of taxpayers for economy and efficiency in government."

Specific Objectives include tax reduction, traffic and parking regulation, transportation solutions and city beautification.

We find only the California State Library System and San Francisco Public Library with holdings, although OCLC is problematic with finding accurate periodical holdings. Item #2492
