[Signed] To Set the Record Straight! The Real Story of Wounded Knee
John M. Carroll, [1980]. [Signed] To Set the Record Straight! The Real Story of Wounded Knee, John M. Carroll (Editor), self-published, n.p., [1980]. 14 1/8 x 8 1/2 inches, 178pp. (recto only)
Typed wrapper is discolored. Plastic binding strip on front is cracking and loosening; strip missing at back--so for a practical purpose, the book is disbound. Interior leaves are clean with light toning to edges. Good condition.
Monumental undertaking by editor Carroll. In the introduction, Carroll notes that the only book on Wounded Knee he felt worthy was Robert Utley's "Last Days of the Sioux Nation" and laments that more writers did not dig deeply into the National Archives files. "Had all writers utilized these sources, a much different story would have prevailed."
This book is a compilation of primary source material at the National Archives as edited by Carroll, with a complete table of contents for reference. Book includes testimonials of officers and statements by Sioux Indians who were present.
A tremendous resource for anyone interested in Wounded Knee. With two maps by Jose Cisneros.
Very hard to find. 50 copies were printed. We find 16 of those copies held by institutions and one additional copy in commerce as of March 2026. Signed by Carroll on title page. Item #2545
