Collection includes four autograph letters signed, three typed letters signed and one clipped promotional photo. Letters all with previous folds. Very good condition.
Maxwell Struthers Burt (1882-1954) was a
Western author, dude rancher, and is credited as a founder of Grand Teton National Park. In 1908 he moved to Wyoming and founded the JY Ranch which ultimately became the famous Rockefeller Ranch of the same name (the JY). In 1912, Bar B C Ranch, a dude ranch.
In 1923, he and others met at Maud Noble's cabin to discuss establishing Grand Teton National Park. Yellowstone National Park Superintendent and future National Park Service Director Horace Albright also attended this vital meeting. Burt was a long-time supporter of preserving Jackson Hole.
He was also a prolific writer, penning Diary of a Dude Wrangler, Powder River (Rivers of America series) Songs & Portraits and other works, often featuring life in the American West. His work included 21 books of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, short stories and one play.

Autograph letter signed by Struthers Burt to Ted Robinson re Robinson's review of Entertaining the Islanders, November 9, 1933. Ted Robinson was a movie and book critic for Newsweek magazine beginning his career with the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Autograph letter signed by Struthers Burt to Ted Robinson thanking Robinson profusely for his letter, [December] 28, 1938.
Typed letter signed by Struthers Burt to Ted Robinson wishing he could meet Robinson and thanking Robinson for pointing out typographical mistakes [in draft of Along These Streets], rewriting the book five times and asking for a copy of Robinson's review in the Plain Dealer once it comes out. With a holograph postscript, 2 pages, January 12, 1942.
Typed letter signed by Struthers Burt to Ted Robinson thanking Robinson profusely for Robinson's "grand review" of Burt's book [Along These Streets] and thanking Robinson for his rebuke to Time Magazine. With a typed postscript by Burt being embarrassed to send Robinson an autographed picture, signed with initials, 2 pages, January 24, 1942. With a magazine clipping photo of Burt "Mr. Burt's book is really a tale of all American Frontiers"
Autograph letter signed by Struthers Burt on his Three Rivers Ranch, Moran Wyoming letterhead, sending his autograph and mentioning his book Holy Experiment, September 4, 1945.
Typed letter signed by Struthers Burt to Mary McBride re his wife's bad accident, June 1, 1945.
Autograph letter signed by Struthers Burt on Furnace Creek Camp letterhead to a Mr. Clough (William Cough's brother) re his children in the Navy, staying at Death Valley "this fantastic and incredibly beautiful place) where both he and his wife are writing new books, inviting Clough to Jackson Hole and discussing what he said about Burt's book Powder River, etc. January 19, 1946. Also mentions Dr. Roberts at the Wind River Reservation and Clough giving an epic view of the epic river "Hudson". There is a William Clough Nature Preserve in the Hudson Valley. Item #2572
