Linen backed map measures 25 1/2 x 25 inches. Previous separations at folds. 2 1/4 x 1 1/4-inch piece missing from left margin, within the Pacific Ocean. Has been stored folded. Early repair work used an apparent non-acid free backing which has left acid burns in several locations. Some off setting from text as map was stored folded. Fair condition.
Important and early map of Western United States, British American and Northern Mexico likely extracted from "The History of Oregon and California and the Other Territories on the North-West Coast of North America; Accompanied with a Geographical View and Map of Those Countries". The Greenhow map accompanied several differing publications; this copy not dated. Includes boundary lines between Great Britain and Russia in the far northwest plus the boundary for United States and Great Britain plus Mexico and United States.
Fun to examine place names in use in 1844. A richly detailed map.
