Very early commercial catalog for the Karastan Rug Company. The Chicago retailer Marshall Field's established a textile mill in Eden, North Carolina in the early 1920's. In 1928, the mill began weaving something closely resembling a handwoven Persian carpet. These rugs were marketed under the invented name "Karastan".

As stated in the introduction of this catalog: "In the Spring of 1928, establishing a date henceforth memorable in the age-old history of rug weaving, Karastan Rugs made their first appearance in the American market. Beginning with the enthusiastic acclaim of those best qualified to judge, the appreciation of Karastan rugs has been unfailing and steadily increasing. Within a single year the popular response and demand has surpassed the dreams of those responsible for its development."

Catalog includes images of 15 full-color rugs with vivid and flourishing descriptions for each design. Item #2635
