Broadside on white watermarked paper measures 14 x 8 1/2 inches. Small chips to two corners with light foxing along right margin. Boldly signed in ink at bottom, "Your friend Edwin Markham Staten Island, N.Y." Verso is blank. Good condition.
One of a series of Edwin Markham [1852-1940] poems printed in broadside format. He is perhaps best known for his poem, "The Man with the Hoe" and served as the Poet Laureate of Oregon from 1923 to 1931.
As stated at the foot of the broadside: "The poem was written at the request of the Bicentennial Commission at Washington D. C., for distribution during the nine months' celebration of George Washington's anniversary in 1932." Item #2731
