Black pebbled cloth with gilt on front and spine. All edges red. Light wear to spine and edges. Frontis and endpaper loosening and may have been re-glued at some point. Clean interior. Good condition.

Posthumously released collection of poetry by the Reverand Frederick Gilderdale Parkinson of What Cheer, Iowa. Reverend Frederick Gilderdale Parkinson (1863–1898) was a minister and beloved person in What Cheer, Iowa. As stated in the preface, "In What Cheer [Iowa] and the country around, his name has been a household word, and his presence has been welcomed for the past six years."

Poems are divided into Verses of Fancy, Verses of Religion, Verses of Affection and Miscellaneous. Frederick Parkinson had "spoke of a project to collect them [poems] in book form. It has been a scared task to his sorrowing widow to carry out..."

This copy is inscribed by Parkinson's widow to Daisy Springer in What Cheer, Iowa Ja. 10, 1903. We find copies at the Iowa State Historical Society and Kansas City Public Library. Item #2736
