Manuscript leaf and preface material extracted from G.P. Putnam's Sons "Autograph Edition of Irving's Works" (not by us) from copy 131 of 500 sets. The manuscript reads: him suddenly, attacked him with his little troop of horse, routed his army, killed many of his warriors, and took him prisoner."
