Four holographic lines on 6 1/8 x 5-inch piece of paper, previously folded into quarters. Remnants of printed poem "Waiting" visible above Burroughs' hand. Signed and dated, West Park, N.Y. Feb. 1st, 1887. Verso is blank except for "Mr. Burroughs Statesman & writer" in pencil. Glue visible to verso--apparently removed from scrapbook. Good condition.
The poem "Waiting" was written in 1862 by John Burroughs, American poet, essayist & naturalist (1837-1921). The holographic lines are as follows and represent the final stanza in the poem.
The stars come nightly to the sky;
The tidal wave unto the sea;
Nor time, nor space, nor deep, nor high,
