"Distant View of Camp Apache, Arizona." Albumen print, 8x10 3/4 inches (20.3x27.3 cm.), on the original Wheeler survey two-toned mount with O'Sullivan's printed credit, title, plate number (No. 6) and the Expedition of 1873 credit on mount recto. Mount and photo in very good condition.

Timothy O'Sullivan (1840-1882) began his photographic career working under Mathew Brady and worked as a staff photographer for the North during the American Civil War. After the war he traveled west working first for Clarence King and later with George M. Wheeler. O'Sullivan shot many iconic views of the American west including this detailed look at Camp Apache, Arizona. Item #5
