[Cincinnati, Ohio] [Quincy, Illinois] Panoramic Showroom Photo of Shapero's Department Store Showcasing Display Cases of Quincy Quipment, Quincy, Illinois

Framed photograph measures 20.5 x 45 inches (outside frame measurement) and weighs a little over 14 pounds. Photo (not examined out of frame) appears to be in fine condition. The frame shows numerous scratches on the face as does the back. Normally we would remove objects from frames but in this case the frame becomes part of the value with an advertising plaque on bottom edge for Quincy Quipment--Quincy Show Case Works of Quincy, Illinois. Collection this came from was, in large part, from Quincy, Illinois leading us to believe this was a display item for the Quincy Quipment Quincy Show Case Works. Photos is composed of two pieces with wooden frame bar covering the break in photos, as designed. Label in lower right-hand corner mostly faded. Unknown photographer. Circa 1932. Very Good Condition.

Photo shows exquisite detail of a showroom of Shapero's Department Store of Cincinnati, Ohio. Shapero's was located at 5th and Race St., Starretts Netherland Plaza, from 1904-1962. Counters include cigars, liquor, a soda fountain, a doll case and a large perfume counter. Handwritten price signs throughout including those for toothpaste, Chinese ash trays, lighters, and we think peach sherbet.

The perfume case includes Chanel perfume, introduced by Coco Chanel in the early 1920's. Boxes appear to be "Le 1940 Rogue de Chanel", introduced in 1931.

The Quincy Show Case Works Company was formed in 1876 and incorporated in 1888. From a 1920's sales catalogue they write, "We have Complete Facilities for the Entire Equipment of Stores in All departments and make a Specialty of Bank, Office, Drug, Jewelry, Dry Goods and Department Store Fixtures, Write for Complete Catalogues, Quincy Show Case Works, Quincy, Illinois, USA". Restored Quincy Show Case Works pieces sell for many thousands of dollars today.
